The L Word

Showtime has announced the creation of a reality series based on it’s hit scripted drama, The L Word.  When the original series ended its successful six season run earlier this year, we were anticipating the rumored spin-off series from executive producer/show runner Ilene Chaiken.  Not long after the series finale we learned that the rumors were true: Chaiken had created a pilot called The Farm starring The L Word‘s Leisha Hailey, who played Alice.  The unfortunate part of the rumor being confirmed was that it also came with word that Showtime had turned the pilot down and there would no series.

Now comes word that there will be a spin-off of The L Word.  This time the unfortunate part is that it’s a reality series.  The show, titled (what else?) The Real L Word: Los Angeles, has tentatively been given a 9 episode first season for sometime in 2010.  We say tentative because they have yet to cast the six real life lesbians to star in the series and the deal is dependent on that casting.
