NBC Gets Medical

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, Mercy, NBC, Trauma on 09/11/2009 at 3:15 pm

Mercy

E.R. was a very successful series for NBC.  At fifteen seasons, the series was the longest-running medical drama to in air primetime, receiving a record 123 Emmy nominations, 22 of which they won.  And that all came to end last season.  NBC must have looked at the situation, said “where do we go from here?”, panicked a little, and then green lit not one, but two new medical dramas.

Here’s some behind the scenes peeks at each.  We must admit that Mercy has a pretty exciting cast.

Mercy debuts Wednesday September 23rd at 8pm on NBC.

Robin Hood Returns!

In 2009 Fall Season, BBC America, British TV, Robin Hood on 09/11/2009 at 1:17 pm

Robin Hood

At long last Robin Hood is returning stateside!  This weekend marks the beginning of the third season of the BBC/BBC America c0-production.  Season two ended with a heart breaker of a plot-line: the murder of Robin’s beloved Marian in the Holy Land.  Not quite sure where Robin will go from this point – I imagine it will be nothing short of all out war?  The problem there is the updated Brit-folk hero series makes it a point for the good guys (i.e. Robin) to kill very little, if at all, so we’re not expecting a bloodbath.

The third season of Robin Hood begins tomorrow, Saturday September 12th at 9pm on BBC America.

True Blood Season Finale Preview

In HBO, Season Finale, Summer Schedule, True Blood on 09/11/2009 at 10:51 am

True Blood

It’s sad but true, folks: Season 2 of True Blood comes to an end this evening.  Judging by the intense cliff-hangers they end just regular episodes with, we’re expecting a doozy for the season finale.  It’ll be sad when the season ends – it’s been an exciting one for both the fans and HBO network, chock full of crazy gory, sexy badness and killer ratings.  The show is set to return for it’s third season in June of 2010.

Don’t wanna wait that long?  Grab yourself a Tru Blood, kickback and start reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels, then!

During a True Blood marathon last Sunday (poor make-up for having no new episode!), HBO broadcast this promotional trailer for the season finale.  It’s basically a different edit of the True Blood/Depeche Mode video we posted the other night, minus the  band footage, shorter and with more footage from the season.

True Blood‘s second season finale airs this weekend, Sunday September 13th at 9pm on HBO.

Jericho The Comic!

In Cancellations, CBS, Comic-Con 2009, Jericho on 09/10/2009 at 1:53 pm

Jericho Season 3

By now we should all know the story behind Jericho.  Great show, bad network choices, a big fan protest, writers strike, show is no more.  It was pretty tragic.  The series had enormous potential and ended up fizzling out.  It was not for a lack of enthusiasm or trying, though.  There’s not much to report just yet, but if you recall way back to the hazy-lazy July days surrounding San Diego Comic-Con, word came out that a little known comic book publisher, Devils Due, would be teaming up with the creators and writers of Jericho to release season three…As a comic book.

While we haven’t read an actual comic book in quite a while, we’re pretty excited at this news and, if they presented us with the option, would pre-order our very own copies (hint hint).  No set publishing date has been announced yet, just that we can expect it in the month of October.  What news there is, though, is that the publisher launched a little micro-site thingy in anticipation of Jericho Season 3: Civil War (that’s the proper title of the series).

And if you absolutely just cannot wait, you can still purchase a copy of the ashcan run.  Not down with the comic lexicon?  No worries, we had to google it, too: An ashcan is a promotional teaser sort of thing that independent publishers print to hype up an upcoming title.  The Jericho ashcans, printed for Comic-Con, are 8-pages featuring black and white artwork, limited to 500 and hand-numbered.  I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m kinda surprised a 500-print run would survive Comic-Con with extras.

In case you missed it all, both seasons of Jericho can still be found at the CBS website.

Chuck Bass Meets Jimmy Fallon

In 2009 Fall Season, Gossip Girl, Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, NBC, The CW on 09/10/2009 at 1:15 pm

Chuck's suspenders!

Jimmy Fallon gave his audience a quick hit of what’s to come when The CW’s Gossip Girl returns next week.  With Ed Westwick as a guest for the evening, Fallon debuted a new game entitled “Bass Masters“.  Not sure it’s exactly “sweeping the nation” as was claimed, but it was a fun bit.  Interesting to witness how quickly Westwick slides in and out of his real British accent and his fake lock-jaw UES/WASP accent.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

You can watch last night’s entire episode of Late Night here, if you so desire.  Other highlights include a cell phone shoot-out for prizes and Fallon racing Queen Latifah through the NBC halls on mini-bikes.  Also, if you’re so inclined, you may want to check out a whole slew of Gossip Girl promotional videos we posted last month.

Gossip Girl returns for it’s third season next Monday, September 14th at 9pm on The CW.

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 12:35am on NBC.

Welcome Back, Supernatural!

In 2009 Fall Season, Supernatural, The CW, The O.C., Veronica Mars on 09/10/2009 at 12:35 pm

Supernatural

Just a quick round up of all the posts we’ve had leading up to the fifth season of Supernatural on The CW.  Let’s see…There’s pictures of Mark Pellegrino as Satan, plus a promotional trailer called Subliminal,  and one called O’ Death.  Also, season 3 came out on DVD.  And while we didn’t make posts about it, we’re excited that Adrianne Palicki will be reprising her role as Jessica on the third episode of the season, Free To Be You and Me, on September 23rd.  There was also a big uproar over the fact that Paris Hilton will make a guest appearance as a demon at some point in the season.  While we’re not fans of Ms. Hilton, we do have to admit that she chooses good shows (Veronica Mars, The O.C.) to make guest appearances on and those bits are usually kinda funny.

Here’s a pic of Adrianne’s return to Supernatural:

The fifth season of Supernatural begins this evening, Thursday September 10th at 9pm on The CW.

Preview: SyFy’s Alice

In 2009 Fall Season, Alice, Battlestar Galactica, Canadian TV, Corner Gas, Crash, Davinci's Inquest, In Treatment, Intelligence, Kingdom Hospital, Men In Trees, Movies, North of 60, Primeval, Robson Arms, Sanctuary, Sci-Fi, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Steven Spielberg's Taken, SyFy on 09/10/2009 at 10:38 am

Alice

It’s quite a ways off, but there’s a pretty cool promotional trailer already for SyFy’s upcoming four-hour two-part mini-series Alice.  The production is a reimagining of Lewis Carroll’s twisted yet family friendly Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland.

From the official SyFy press release:

For this re-imagined adaptation, writer/director Nick Willing mines the bizarre ingenuity and twisted logic of Carroll’s work to create a daringly different, boldly colorful and delightfully skewed dreamscape of his own.

The project features a large and impressive cast that, if you’re familiar with the sci-fi genre and/or Canadian TV, you’ll be astounded by.  The lineup consists of stars (not just guest stars, but actuall cast members) of: Primeval, Steven Spielberg’s Taken, Eureka, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Battlestar Galactica, Crash (the tv series), Kingdom Hospital, Sanctuary, Robson Arms, Corner Gas, Davinci’s Inquest, Intelligence, North of 60, and Men In Trees, among many many others.  To top all that, they’ve also landed Tim Curry and Cathy Bates!  Whew – that’s alot of talent.

According to the network:

“An incredible creative team has been assembled to re-interpret this familiar tale in an imaginative and innovative way,” said Mark Stern, EVP of Original Programming for Syfy. “This exciting new vision is one of the reasons we’ve been able to attract such high-level talent.”

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Alice is set to premiere on SyFy in December of 2009.  We’ll keep updated as it approaches!

And so as not to confuse anyone, SyFy’s Alice is in no way related to the upcoming Tim Burton film starring In Treatment‘s Mia Wasikowska that we reported on some months back.

The Forgotten Trailers

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, ABC, Advertising, Flash Forward, Modern Family, The Forgotten on 09/10/2009 at 9:45 am

The Forgotten

While ABC seems to be throwing most of their pre-fall promotional resources into sci-fi mind-bender Flash Forward and fresh-faced comedy sitcom Modern Family, we’ve been struggling to keep up with some of their other shows such as this one, The Forgotten.  You’d think being Christian Slater’s return to television and being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer would warrant a bit more of a push, but if that’s the way ABC wants to play it, who are we to judge, right?

Actually, while we are looking forward to this show, we must admit that it seems like it would be a better fit over at CBS.  They’re more procedural and missing persons-y than ABC, don’t you think?

You can also see an older preview we posted about here.

The Forgotten premieres Tuesday September 22nd at 10pm on ABC.

Skills Returning To One Tree Hill!!!

In 2009 Fall Season, One Tree Hill, The CW, Twitter on 09/10/2009 at 3:59 am

Skills

Holy crap!  The CW posted a behind the scenes video yesterday of One Tree Hill featuring Antwon Tanner!  If you’re in the know, then you’re already aware of Tanner’s legal issues.  Because of those issues most OTH fans, myself included, assumed Skills would be no longer be on the show.  We’re pretty stoked to learn otherwise.

Just last night in a heated OTH conversation via twitter, a few us TV nerds were mourning the loss of the Skills/Jamie duo that we’ve all come to know and love over the last two seasons.  While Brooke, Nathan and Haley may be the show’s main draw, we all agreed that the chemistry and scenes between Skills and young Jamie were a highlight of the show.  Good to know they’ll be back!

Here’s the video, called Nekkidness:

One Tree Hill returns for it’s seventh season next Monday, September 14th at 8pm on The CW.

New White Collar Poster

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, USA, White Collar on 09/09/2009 at 5:20 pm

White Collar

Coming via the show’s official twitter feed, we have the final poster for USA’s upcoming White Collar.  There’s been a bunch of WC posts lately, what with Natalie Morales joining the cast full time and a new promotional trailer.  This poster is pretty tight, too!

White Collar premieres Friday October 23rd at 10pm on USA.

The Good Wife Poster

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, CBS, The Good Wife on 09/09/2009 at 4:45 pm

The Good Wife

Slick poster for CBS’ upcoming Juliana Marguiles series The Good Wife.  Buzz is pretty high surrounding this show.  The trailers look great, the cast is excellent: we’re really hoping for something special here.  Our one hold back, though, is that so much has been made about the scandalous beginning of the series that, once that subsides and we’re left a legal show, some people out there may be disappointed.  We’re not saying that’ll happen, but we do see the potential.  We’ll just keep our fingers crossed.

The Good Wife premieres Tuesday September 22nd at 10pm on CBS.

Brothers & Sisters Sneak Peek

In 2009 Fall Season, ABC, Brothers and Sisters, Drama on 09/09/2009 at 4:10 pm

Brothers & Sisters

If you’re a regular reader of DVR Life (we know there’s one or two of you out there!), you know we’re big drama hounds.  Love the drama.  Can’t get enough of it.  That may be why ABC’s Brothers & Sisters is one of our favorite shows.  This show could go head to head with any other out there in the drama department and it’s like some intense addictive substance that we can’t stay away from.

The first trailer gives us a peek at Kitty and Robert on the campaign trail.  At first we were excited to see them back together and joking, being cute together and then BAM!  We see that all is still not well in the political couple’s marriage.  Trailer two sees Holly and Nora throwing down over engagement gifts for Justin and Rebecca while poor Nora’s mom gets stuck in the middle.  Didn’t we say there was a lot of drama?

Brothers & Sisters returns for it’s fourth season on Sunday September 27th at 10pm on ABC.

Bored To Death Poster

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, Bored To Death, Curb Your Enthusiasm, HBO on 09/09/2009 at 3:25 pm

Bored To Death

If you didn’t get the hint the first two times we posted promotional trailers for this show, we’re are excited for the premiere of HBO’s new comedy Bored To Death.  How could we not be with a lineup like this?  Now we have an awesome new poster to tout the preimere, too!

Bored To Death debuts Sunday September 20th at 9:30pm on HBO after the seventh season premiere of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Supernatural Pics: Mark Pellegrino As Satan

In 2009 Fall Season, Sci-Fi, Supernatural, The CW on 09/09/2009 at 2:55 pm

Mark Pellegrino

DaemonsTV got first look pictures of Mark Pelligrino on the sixth season of The CW’s Supernatural.  We first took notice of Pelligrino when he ruled as Rita’s creepy wife-beating junkie ex on Dexter.  More recently he ruled as the island’s creepy Jacob on Lost.  He’s good at being creepy, so we’re excited to see how he plays the creep himself: Satan.

Mark Pellegrino

The evil one’s guest-stint begins this Thursday during the season premiere, though these pictures are from episode three, entitled “Free To Be You and Me”, which will air September 24th.

Supernatural returns to The CW on Thursday September 10th at 9pm for it’s fifth season.

House Promo Had Real Snakes!

In 2009 Fall Season, Advertising, Fox, Fry and Laurie, House on 09/09/2009 at 2:08 pm

House

Remember when we were hoping those were not real snakes?  Turns out they were!  Snakesonacane.com has a new behind the scenes video of the photo shoot, real snakes, British accents and all!  If you’ve somehow managed to steer clear of every Hugh Laurie interview ever and have never seen Fry and Laurie or any of his other previous shows, you’ll get to hear Dr. House crack a few jokes in his native accent.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

House returns to Fox for it’s sixth season on Monday September 21st at 8pm with a two hour season premiere.

HBO’s A Dog Year Trailer

In A Dog Year, Advertising, HBO, Movies on 09/09/2009 at 1:15 pm

A Dog Year

So we’re gonna let you in on a little secret.  Keep it real quite, though, you know…On the down-low and all.  HBO Films produced a movie called A Dog Year.  They produced the film and even managed to get an awesome cast consisting of movie star Jeff Bridges (The Dude!), Six Feet Under‘s Lauren Ambrose and True Blood‘s Lois Smith.

Once they produced the film, they snuck it out on to the air last Thursday, the 3rd of September.  Apparently they didn’t want anyone to know, though, so they didn’t bother…you know, telling anyone or even posting anything on their webpage about it.  Well, don’t tell HBO because some stupid intern over there must have made a mistake and posted a trailer for it on youtube and we thought it only right to post it.

Sorry HBO, we know you tried really hard not to let anyone know this movie exists but we kinda dig the cast and appreciate a good heart-warming story with crazy writers and even crazier dogs every now and then.

Unless HBO manages to hide this movie even better than they’ve already done, A Dog Year will re-air a few times on Wednesday September 9th on HBO2 and HBO Signature.  It can also be seen on HBO On Demand

From The Middleman To White Collar

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, The Middleman, USA, White Collar on 09/09/2009 at 12:45 pm

Natalie Morales

Sorry sci-fi geeks, but you lost a hot one!  Many of you fell for Natalie Morales in ABC Family’s kid sister-friendly sci-fi series The Middleman.  Her character was smart, witty and cute as all get out…Here’s hoping the wit and smarts (no question about the beauty, obviously) carries over to USA’s upcoming White Collar.  TV Squad reports she’s been uped to a series regular.  As if a new series featuring Matt Bomer as a slickster con-man and Tim DeKay as an F.B.I. agent plus Willie Garson and Tiffany Thiessen as co-stars wasn’t already awesome enough, right?

Here’s a preview:

You can also catch our previous White Collar preview here.

White Collar premieres Friday October 23rd at 10pm on USA.

Stargate Universe Trailer

Stargate Universe

It’s been out for a bit but Scifiwire.com reminded us yesterday about this pretty intense promotional trailer for Syfy’s upcoming new series Stargate Universe.  The show is the networks third Stargate-related series in the franchise.  To tell you the truth, the trailer is so intense and features such great production values, there were certain times where I almost thought it was for a movie!

Stargate Universe premieres with a 2 hour pilot on Friday October 2nd at 9pm on SyFy.

Depeche Mode + True Blood = Corrupt

In HBO, Music, True Blood on 09/08/2009 at 11:43 pm

True Blood

If you recall way back in the spring time when we were still looking forward to True Blood‘s sophomore outing, we were treated a teaser video featuring Bob Dylan’s bluesy new song, Beyond Here Lies Nothing.  Things must have worked out well because now there’s a brand new Depeche Mode/True Blood tag team.  HBO posted the video, featuring most members of the cast in various states, as well as in studio footage of the band, to their official Youtube page earlier today.  The song and video are both pretty awesome:

P.S.  Anyone else wondering if the 3:33 runtime means it’s only half evil?
