Martin Short & Campbell Scott Join Damages

Martin Short

Variety reported yesterday that Damages has picked up two new cast members for it’s upcoming third season: Martin Short and Campbell Scott.  Our initial thought was that Campbell Scott would make a great addition to the cast.  He ruled it this past summer as a mysterious Russian billionaire on USA’s freshman hit Royal Pains, and we could see him sinking into a dark, confusing character on the FX series.

Martin Short, though…we didn’t see that coming.  He hasn’t played many dramatic parts and our twitter followers were all in agreement with our first thought: his casting is either a mistake or is going to be completely brilliant.  We also had the same misgivings about Darrell Hammond as the Deacon…You know, until he turned out to be one of the creepiest, awesomest character in a cast full of creepy, awesome characters.

Considering Glenn Close just won her second Emmy for the series this past weekend, we should probably just trust the Damages crew to know what they’re doing by now – they’ve earned it.

Damages is set to return to FX for it’s third season in January 2010.

When we first heard about TNT’s upcoming series Men of a Certain Age and the well chosen cast, we were pretty excited.  This new promotional trailer, the first look we’ve had a look at, just added to that.  Seems like it’s going to be a funny, good-natured type of show.  We’re really looking forward to this and hoping that someone in the PR world is nice enough to shoot us some episodes when their publicity push begins (hint hint).

Vodpod videos no longer available.

TNT has yet to announce a premiere date for Men of a Certain Age, though, as the above picture states, it should be in December 2009.

TNT posted a teaser page for their upcoming series Men of A Certain Age.  Don’t bother rushing over their site, unless you really want to.  All you’re gonna find is the picture that’s above.  We were serious when we said it was a teaser.  The network ordered 10 episodes for the first season, which, according to the graphic, begins airing this December.  That’s a bit of a change as previous reports had a January debut.

According the show’s wikipedia page, “The series follows the bonds of friendship of three college friends, Joe, Owen and Terry, who are now in their 40s.  Joe (Ray Romano) is a slightly neurotic divorced father of two (Brittany Curran plays Lucy and Braeden Lemasters plays Albert) who hoped to become a pro golfer but now owns a party store.  Owen (Andre Braugher) is an overstressed husband and father, who is a car salesman at his dad’s dealership. Terry (Scott Bakula) is a struggling actor dating a much younger woman.”

Sounds like it could be really funny, so long as it’s done right.  Ray Romano co-wrote the pilot script and we’re big fans of all three actors, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.  Romano hasn’t appeared regularly on television since Everybody Loves Raymond.  Scott Bakula, who ruled as the elder Bartowski on Chuck, hasn’t been a series regular since Star Trek: Enterprise, though we’re way bigger Quantum Leap fans.  Andre Braugher, best known as Baltimore bad-ass Det. Frank Pembleton on Homicide: Life On The Street, also picked up an Emmy for his part in the FX miniseries, Thief.  Good  to have all three back on the small screen!
