Along with being the biggest month of the year for both series and season premiere’s for TV, September is also one of the biggest months for TV on DVD releases.  Don’t ask us why.  We think it’s kinda stupid to wait until September as, like we’ve already pointed out, the month is crammed with plenty of stuff to watch on TV AND it doesn’t give people much time to catch up before the next season begins, beyond the fact that it’s a wallet-buster.  It’s a massive month of overload, in our book.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t still be excited!  We’re especially looking forward to Fox’s mind-bending first season of Fringe, the fourth season of The CW’s cult-hit Supernatural (on blu-ray to boot!), Canadian sci-fi lite dramedy Being Erica‘s first season and, of course, the third season of NBC’s comedy giant 30 Rock.

In anticipation of the release of Fringe‘s first season on September 8th, they setup a cool website in which you can enter to win a visit to the show’s set in Vancouver, among other things.  Once you enter  you can watch a video about the difficulties of filming the episode The Ghost Network and then play a game which, if you answer correctly, gives you five extra entries into that set visit contest.  And here’s a little hint for our readers: you may wanna brush up on some episodes of ABC Family’s Greek for some help on the game.  Check out the site: Completethepattern.com

TNT Sets End For Saving Grace

In 2010 Summer Schedule, Brotherhood, Cancellations, Programming, Saving Grace, Showtime, TNT on 08/14/2009 at 1:44 pm

Saving Grace

DVR Life hates bringing the bad news to you folks, but it’s our duty to not only inform you of the renewals and pickups, but also the cancellations.  Plus this has already been posted to most other TV blogs and news outlets, so we’re hoping any kill the messenger feelings have subsided by now.

TNT has announced the end of their original (and we do mean original) series Saving Grace.  This summer’s run of episodes will end next week at 10pm as planned.  What’s come about after that, though, is a comprise between the shows producers and the network.  We’d like to appluad TNT for taking this route as most networks show no mercy when wielding the ax.  Think Showtime and Brotherhood or any other show that was canceled with no warning or ended on a cliff hanger.

As with most cable series, the network split the season in two parts, planning to show the first half during the summer season and the following six episodes in January.  Now, plans call for three new episodes to be created, paired with those six and aired in the summer of 2010 as a nine episode fourth and final season.

Showtime Unceremoniously Cancels Brotherhood

In Brotherhood, Cancellations, HBO, Showtime, The Wire on 06/29/2009 at 2:17 pm

Well, they left us hanging since last December, so I suppose it comes as no big surprise, but Showtime has canceled Brotherhood after only three seasons. The series, in our opinion, was criminally under rated by viewers and critics, rivaling even HBO’s The Wire as one of the most under appreciated premium cable shows of all time.

At least The Wire was given a final season by HBO and people started noticing it just in time to finally heap some much deserved praise upon the series before it’s death. In canceling Brotherhood, Showtime did little more than offer up a press release six months after the series finale that wasn’t even about the show being canceled – it’s about the season three DVD release officially being titled Brotherhood: The Final Season.
