The Beautiful Life: TBL

As I mentioned on Thursday, The CW has been having a rough go of it with their new series this season.  Other than Vampire Diaries, none of their new scripted series have been pulling very impressive ratings, including the much ballyhooed Melrose Place remake.  I wasn’t expecting a death so quickly, though, but after only two episodes The Beautiful Life: TBL has been given the ol’ heave-ho.

Other than the swiftness, not much about the cancellation is a surprise.  The first mistake came with the casting of Mischa Barton.  Mistake number two was the bungled PR handling of the show, including the ridiculous nude promotional photos debacle.  On the production side, fault lies with the tepid writing, which was predictable and bland.  We can’t really expect much more, though, from such a dull and overly-used premise (it girl disappears from the spolight, everyone assumes rehab, actually had a baby, surprise!).

There were pops of excitement, but those fleeting moments were mainly visual and were so few and far between.   Watching the show I often wondered why it lasted a full hour.  The network is shoveling episodes of Melrose Place in TBL’s timeslot, which I guess means another free hour for my DVR.

But wait!  There’s more: A&E has declined to renew (read: canceled) their latest new scripted series, The Cleaner.  The show was not exactly a favorite of ours, but many in TV critic circles seemed to enjoy it.  We always thought it was a bit too drab and depressing…only not in a good way.  We did like Benjamin Bratt, though, so we’re kinda bummed for him.

The decision to not renew the series for a third season means, atleast for now, A&E has no scripted series.  Not sure if they have anything in  the pipeline for the future, but the network recently merged with Lifetime, which was bought by NBC and blah blah blah.  Lot’s of business stuff, but we all know that, with Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva, Lifetime has been doing pretty well with scripted series and NBC sister nets like USA and SyFy have been killing it with so many hits the last few seasons to even list.

The Beautiful Life: TBL Premieres Tonight

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, 7th Heaven, 90210, Dawsons Creek, Felicity, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, Melrose Place, Roswell, The Beautiful Life, The CW on 09/16/2009 at 11:20 am

The Beautiful Life: TBL

While we think the ‘TBL‘ is part of The Beautiful Life: TBL is kinda dumb and we suspect that certain members of the cast would never make it past the first season (assuming there’ll be a second), we’re kinda looking forward to tonight’s premiere of the series.  The CW pulled out the usual stops, nudity included, in promoting the show and even did a pretty good job of keeping Mischa Barton’s meltdown from over-taking the series.  Bravo on that, by the way.

We’ve come to expect nothing less than a staggering level of drama and beautiful people when it comes to The CW’s new scripted series and we’re pretty sure we will not be disapointed  by TBL: TBL (that second TBL is just so unneccesary, right?).  Gone, apparently, are the cutesy days of Gilmore Girls, the high school fun of Roswell, the family friendly 7th Heaven, the angsty era of Felicity and Dawson’s Creek.  No folks, in the late aught’s it’s all about the B-I-T-C-H and the oh snap and the sex appeal.

We’re not complaining…really.  We’re still watching and squealing (silently to ourselves, of course) with joy each time Blair brings a girl to tears.  We’re just a little worried that the bitchy factor may be tipping a little too far, between Gossip Girl, Melrose Place and TBL: TBL.  Oh and 90210.  We don’t watch that one but we assume there’s a bunch of pretty people being nasty to each other on that show, too.

Anyway, here’s a whole bunch of sexy, pretty people being nasty, mean spirited and gorgeous:

The CW: Double Double Teasers: MP & TBL

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, 90210, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, The Beautiful Life, The CW on 09/04/2009 at 11:30 am

Melrose Place

As you see above there’s a new last minute poster for The CW’s upcoming Melrose Place remake.  The photo’s was used in a previous poster, but it’s been updated with that catchy little “See You Next Tuesday” tagline.  Down below we have two double promotional trailers for Melrose and The CW’s other new hot-boys-&-girls-athon, The Beautiful Life.  I’m kinda surprised these two shows weren’t paired together.  I think they’d go better together than the disapointingly terrible 90210 remake.  Who would have thought that show would make it to a second year?  Don’t worry, though, from what we hear the Melrose remake is much better than the 90210 one.

Melrose Place premieres Tuesday September 18th at 9pm & The Beautiful Life premieres Wednesday September 16th at 9pm  on The CW.

The Beautiful Life

Well, we didn’t bother posting about those ridiculous promotional posters The CW released for The Beautiful Life last week,  We realize a cheap promotional ploy when we see one.  We do dig this trailer, though.  And hey!  It actually reminded us that Miss Barton is a part of the cast.  All recent promotion for the show has…mysteriously…left her out.

The Beautiful Life premieres Wednesday September 16th at 9pm on The CW.

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, Gossip Girl, Melrose Place, One Tree Hill, Smallville, Supernatural, The Beautiful Life, The CW, Vampire Diaries on 06/17/2009 at 12:07 am

The CW announced it’s Fall 2009 premiere dates, including a flip flop for teeny-soap hits Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill. Not sure what’s behind the changed but I don’t mind long as the two are still paired up.

Also check out the new poster for season 7 of One Tree Hill above. It’s a bit sparse without Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton. If you look real closely at the credits, there’s no mention of Antwon Tanner, though I’m not sure if he’s ever been a starring cast member.

Below are the official premiere dates:

Tues. Sept. 8th
8PM – 90210
9PM – Melrose Place

Thurs. Sept. 10

The CW Previews

In Gossip Girl, Melrose Place, Preview, The Beautiful Life, The CW, Vampire Diaries on 05/22/2009 at 1:22 am

Vampires, models and beautiful people converging on an apartment complex. Below we have a few clips from each of The CW’s new shows for next season. Also supposedly the Gossip Girl spin-off isn’t totally dead quite yet, which sort of ok, considering last week’s test run on Gossip Girl wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I was glad at the time that the entire episode wasn’t dedicated to the spin off, like some shows do, but even Lilly’s 80’s flashback weren’t half bad.

The previews:

Vampire Diaries
These clips are kinda short and don’t really show much of anything.
