Heroes: A Normal Life

In 2009 Fall Season, Heroes, NBC, The CW on 09/28/2009 at 1:59 pm

Heroes - Redemption

While we didn’t find last week’s season premiere of NBC’s Heroes to reach mind-blowing levels, we were rather happy to see the characters return to the the whole “everyday people with extraordinary abilities” thing.  Unfortunately for Mr. Kring, it may be a bit too late.  The show averaged just about 6 million viewers.  While a network like The CW would do back flips through a raging fire for numbers like that, it’s not considered very good for a two hour season premiere for a show that averaged nearly 14 million viewers it’s first season.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Heroes airs each Monday at 8pm on NBC.

Models & Junkies Get The Ax

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, A&E, Army Wives, Drop Dead Diva, Melrose Place, The Beautiful Life, The Cleaner, The CW, Vampire Diaries on 09/26/2009 at 2:39 pm

The Beautiful Life: TBL

As I mentioned on Thursday, The CW has been having a rough go of it with their new series this season.  Other than Vampire Diaries, none of their new scripted series have been pulling very impressive ratings, including the much ballyhooed Melrose Place remake.  I wasn’t expecting a death so quickly, though, but after only two episodes The Beautiful Life: TBL has been given the ol’ heave-ho.

Other than the swiftness, not much about the cancellation is a surprise.  The first mistake came with the casting of Mischa Barton.  Mistake number two was the bungled PR handling of the show, including the ridiculous nude promotional photos debacle.  On the production side, fault lies with the tepid writing, which was predictable and bland.  We can’t really expect much more, though, from such a dull and overly-used premise (it girl disappears from the spolight, everyone assumes rehab, actually had a baby, surprise!).

There were pops of excitement, but those fleeting moments were mainly visual and were so few and far between.   Watching the show I often wondered why it lasted a full hour.  The network is shoveling episodes of Melrose Place in TBL’s timeslot, which I guess means another free hour for my DVR.

But wait!  There’s more: A&E has declined to renew (read: canceled) their latest new scripted series, The Cleaner.  The show was not exactly a favorite of ours, but many in TV critic circles seemed to enjoy it.  We always thought it was a bit too drab and depressing…only not in a good way.  We did like Benjamin Bratt, though, so we’re kinda bummed for him.

The decision to not renew the series for a third season means, atleast for now, A&E has no scripted series.  Not sure if they have anything in  the pipeline for the future, but the network recently merged with Lifetime, which was bought by NBC and blah blah blah.  Lot’s of business stuff, but we all know that, with Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva, Lifetime has been doing pretty well with scripted series and NBC sister nets like USA and SyFy have been killing it with so many hits the last few seasons to even list.

Vampire Diaries: Friday Night Bites

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, The CW, Vampire Diaries on 09/24/2009 at 11:23 am

Vampire Diaries

It’s been a rough fall season for The CW so far.  None of their new shows are doing very well in the ratings, which somehow manages to be a bit of a surprise while also being no surprise at all.  Go figure.  The one show they rolled out this year that hasn’t tanked thus far is Vampire Diaries, which is cool by us because we kinda dig the show.

The Vampire Diaries airs each Thurday evening at 8pm on The CW.

Gossip Girl: Sexperimentation

Gossip Girl

Do you know what a Geor-gina is?  Well, watch and learn.  Here’s a new Gossip Girl trailer from The CW.  The trailer gives us a quick look at Hilary Duff’s guest appearance and what dorm life holds for the incoming NYU class:

Gossip Girl airs each Monday at 9pm on The CW.

Gossip Girl

The CW twittered another first look photo today, this one featuring Hilary Duff on Gossip Girl.  Duff’s character, Olivia Burke, is a movie star who rooms with Vanessa while attending NYU.  While this photo doesn’t reveal much, there’s been some apparent rumors of Olivia and Lonely Boy being romantically involved.  We’re keeping our fingers crossed.

And in case you missed it, The CW twittered a first look at Tyra Banks guest starring on Gossip Girl.

Gossip Girl airs each Monday at 9pm on The CW.

Gossip Girl

The CW just twittered a first look picture of Tyra Banks guest appearance on Gossip Girl.  Her one time guest appearance takes place on the October 5th episode entitled Dan de Fleurette. She’ll star as Ursula Nyquist, an actress Serena will struggle to “control at the premiere of her latest movie”.  No idea why Serena needs to take care of an actress, but I guess we’ll find out on the 5th!

Gossip Girl airs each Monday night at 9pm on The CW.

Sneak Peek At Grey’s Anatomy Season Premiere

In 2009 Fall Season, ABC, Grey's Anatomy, One Tree Hill, The CW on 09/16/2009 at 3:21 pm

Grey's Anatomy

In preparation of the upcoming fall TV season network heads have been trying out a new approach: teasing people with the first four or five minutes of the upcoming season premiere.  I wanna go on record here and say that I don’t like it.  I didn’t watch when The CW posted the first couple of minutes of this week’s One Tree Hill season premiere and I’m not gonna watch this here five-something minute clip from the sixth season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy.  I prefer to witness it live, in HD, when it airs.  That doesn’t mean we won’t give you the chance to see it, though:

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Grey’s Anatomy returns for it’s sixth season on ABC with a two hour premiere on Thursday September 24th at 9pm.

The Beautiful Life: TBL Premieres Tonight

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, 7th Heaven, 90210, Dawsons Creek, Felicity, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, Melrose Place, Roswell, The Beautiful Life, The CW on 09/16/2009 at 11:20 am

The Beautiful Life: TBL

While we think the ‘TBL‘ is part of The Beautiful Life: TBL is kinda dumb and we suspect that certain members of the cast would never make it past the first season (assuming there’ll be a second), we’re kinda looking forward to tonight’s premiere of the series.  The CW pulled out the usual stops, nudity included, in promoting the show and even did a pretty good job of keeping Mischa Barton’s meltdown from over-taking the series.  Bravo on that, by the way.

We’ve come to expect nothing less than a staggering level of drama and beautiful people when it comes to The CW’s new scripted series and we’re pretty sure we will not be disapointed  by TBL: TBL (that second TBL is just so unneccesary, right?).  Gone, apparently, are the cutesy days of Gilmore Girls, the high school fun of Roswell, the family friendly 7th Heaven, the angsty era of Felicity and Dawson’s Creek.  No folks, in the late aught’s it’s all about the B-I-T-C-H and the oh snap and the sex appeal.

We’re not complaining…really.  We’re still watching and squealing (silently to ourselves, of course) with joy each time Blair brings a girl to tears.  We’re just a little worried that the bitchy factor may be tipping a little too far, between Gossip Girl, Melrose Place and TBL: TBL.  Oh and 90210.  We don’t watch that one but we assume there’s a bunch of pretty people being nasty to each other on that show, too.

Anyway, here’s a whole bunch of sexy, pretty people being nasty, mean spirited and gorgeous:

Gossip Girl Returns!

In 2009 Fall Season, Firefly, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Sonic Youth, Teen Soaps, The CW on 09/14/2009 at 12:15 pm

Gossip Girl

Hopefully you caught our One Tree Hill roundup earlier.  We’re now moving on to Gossip Girl!  The CW has been slightly stingy when it comes to promotional trailers for the upcoming third season of the show.  Of course, there’s the slew of WTF trailers they posted to their youtube channel, but not a peep since, unless you count behind the scenes trailers.  We don’t really count them, though as…well, we don’t really like behind the scenes stuff too much here at DVR Life.  We tend to feel like they kind of kill the magic in a whole you don’t know wanna know what’s in that hotdog kinda way.  There was a pretty funny Chuck Bass appearance on Jimmy Fallon the other night, though.

Others news surrounding this season of Gossip Girl has been related to guest appearances and casting, mainly.  We learned that, even though she’s now starring in NBC’s upcoming medical drama Mercy, Michelle Trachtenburg will be making an appearance as Blair’s college dorm-mate.  Blair’s reaction to that news will be beyond priceless, I’m sure.  In the realm of brilliant casting, Firefly‘s Gina Torres has been cast for multiple episodes as Vanessa’s mother.

Gina Tores

Outside of character casting, there’s the gay storyline spoiler floating around and, what we’re most excited about: the awesomeness of a Sonic Youth guest appearance!  The band will be playing their song Starpower off their 1986 album Evol.  This should be even better than their short spot on Gilmore Girls a few years back!

And just in case you needed it, here’s the season three up to speed trailer:

Gossip Girl returns for it’s third season tonight, September 14th at 9pm on The CW.

One Tree Hill Returns!

In 2009 Fall Season, BBC America, British TV, Gossip Girl, Lipstick Jungle, Melrose Place, One Tree Hill, Skins, The CW, Vampire Diaries on 09/14/2009 at 11:08 am

One Tree Hill

The drama returns!  Tonight marks the return of The CW’s Monday night power duo featuring long-runner One Tree Hill and pop-culture phenom Gossip Girl. We hope you’re ready for the all drama: We certainly are!  While BBC’s Skins has been keeping our teen drama levels from sinking too low and The CW’s premieres of Melrose Place and The Vampire Diaires last week were helpful, we’re ready for some good old American-style overload.

One Tree Hill

Let’s get started with a quick One Tree Hill roundup:

First, we were super excited to learn that Skills would be returning to Tree Hill for a seventh season despite Antwon Tanner’s legal issues.  There was also a whole bunch of promotional trailers posted to The CW’s official youtube channel, including the first four minutes of season 7 episode 1.  There were also not one or two, but three really short teasers they released early this summer.  Also, despite the Brian Austin Green tease, we’re excited to have Lipstick Jungle‘s Robert Buckley joining the cast and curious as to how long Shantel VanSanten will be sticking around as Haley’s older sis, Quinn.  And just in case you missed anything, here’s the season 7 up to speed trailer:

And here’s One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn describing a scene entitled 4:30am (Apparently They Were Traveling Abroad).  On a side note, I like knowing that the creator of a show is still around at the seventh season.  That seems so rare!

One Tree Hill returns for it’s seventh season tonight, September 14th at 8pm on The CW.

Chuck Bass Meets Jimmy Fallon

In 2009 Fall Season, Gossip Girl, Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, NBC, The CW on 09/10/2009 at 1:15 pm

Chuck's suspenders!

Jimmy Fallon gave his audience a quick hit of what’s to come when The CW’s Gossip Girl returns next week.  With Ed Westwick as a guest for the evening, Fallon debuted a new game entitled “Bass Masters“.  Not sure it’s exactly “sweeping the nation” as was claimed, but it was a fun bit.  Interesting to witness how quickly Westwick slides in and out of his real British accent and his fake lock-jaw UES/WASP accent.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

You can watch last night’s entire episode of Late Night here, if you so desire.  Other highlights include a cell phone shoot-out for prizes and Fallon racing Queen Latifah through the NBC halls on mini-bikes.  Also, if you’re so inclined, you may want to check out a whole slew of Gossip Girl promotional videos we posted last month.

Gossip Girl returns for it’s third season next Monday, September 14th at 9pm on The CW.

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 12:35am on NBC.

Welcome Back, Supernatural!

In 2009 Fall Season, Supernatural, The CW, The O.C., Veronica Mars on 09/10/2009 at 12:35 pm

Just a quick round up of all the posts we’ve had leading up to the fifth season of Supernatural on The CW.  Let’s see…There’s pictures of Mark Pellegrino as Satan, plus a promotional trailer called Subliminal,  and one called O’ Death.  Also, season 3 came out on DVD.  And while we didn’t make posts about it, we’re excited that Adrianne Palicki will be reprising her role as Jessica on the third episode of the season, Free To Be You and Me, on September 23rd.  There was also a big uproar over the fact that Paris Hilton will make a guest appearance as a demon at some point in the season.  While we’re not fans of Ms. Hilton, we do have to admit that she chooses good shows (Veronica Mars, The O.C.) to make guest appearances on and those bits are usually kinda funny.

Here’s a pic of Adrianne’s return to Supernatural:

The fifth season of Supernatural begins this evening, Thursday September 10th at 9pm on The CW.

Skills Returning To One Tree Hill!!!

In 2009 Fall Season, One Tree Hill, The CW, Twitter on 09/10/2009 at 3:59 am

Holy crap!  The CW posted a behind the scenes video yesterday of One Tree Hill featuring Antwon Tanner!  If you’re in the know, then you’re already aware of Tanner’s legal issues.  Because of those issues most OTH fans, myself included, assumed Skills would be no longer be on the show.  We’re pretty stoked to learn otherwise.

Just last night in a heated OTH conversation via twitter, a few us TV nerds were mourning the loss of the Skills/Jamie duo that we’ve all come to know and love over the last two seasons.  While Brooke, Nathan and Haley may be the show’s main draw, we all agreed that the chemistry and scenes between Skills and young Jamie were a highlight of the show.  Good to know they’ll be back!

Here’s the video, called Nekkidness:

One Tree Hill returns for it’s seventh season next Monday, September 14th at 8pm on The CW.

Supernatural Pics: Mark Pellegrino As Satan

In 2009 Fall Season, Sci-Fi, Supernatural, The CW on 09/09/2009 at 2:55 pm

Mark Pellegrino

DaemonsTV got first look pictures of Mark Pelligrino on the sixth season of The CW’s Supernatural.  We first took notice of Pelligrino when he ruled as Rita’s creepy wife-beating junkie ex on Dexter.  More recently he ruled as the island’s creepy Jacob on Lost.  He’s good at being creepy, so we’re excited to see how he plays the creep himself: Satan.

Mark Pellegrino

The evil one’s guest-stint begins this Thursday during the season premiere, though these pictures are from episode three, entitled “Free To Be You and Me”, which will air September 24th.

Supernatural returns to The CW on Thursday September 10th at 9pm for it’s fifth season.

Smallville Getting Some Style?

In 2009 Fall Season, Smallville, The CW on 09/08/2009 at 1:17 pm

We have to admit that we here at DVR Life did not catch on to Smallville until season 5!  Right before the fifth season got going we crammed the first four into our Netflix cue and hurriedly made our way through the series, finishing just in time for the fifth season premiere.  How we loved the show!  Each week we waited until the first 20 minutes of each new episode had recorded, as all good DVR user’s do to avoid commercials, before rushing to hit the play button.  As time went on, though, and the fifth, sixth and seventh seasons went by, we are a bit sad to say that, during last year’s eighth season, Smallville would still record each and every Thursday evening…but sometimes it would sit on our DVR until Sunday, Monday…Sometimes we’d even get so backed up as to have two episodes on our Show List.  Perhaps it was Smallville fatigue?

Whatever the problem, with the new trailer we’ve seen, the sneak peek of Brian Austin Green as Metallo and now finally getting a good look at Clark’s new outfit…well, it’s gone.  I will miss Clark’s blue & red farm boy outfit, but I think I like the darker tones the show seems to be taking.  Just kinda bummed that, if this is the last season, that it’ll be a whole different show from the one we fell in love with all those years ago.  Still, while I usually have to work on Friday evenings, I imagine I’ll be hitting the PLAY button just as soon as I get in the door that evening.

As an added treat, there’s also been a very Die Hard-ish pic of Chloe floating around this week, too”

Smallville returns to The CW for its ninth season on Friday September 25th at 9pm.

The Vampire Diaries: A Darker Truth

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, A Darker Truth, The CW, Vampire Diaries, Webisodes on 09/04/2009 at 2:15 pm

Vampire Diaries

The CW posted the third episode of A Darker Truth, a pre-Vampire Diaries web series.  Each episode is about one and a half to two minutes in length and follows a kid looking for revenge against his sister’s murder, Stefan Salvatore.  The dialogue is heavy-handed and the acting leaves much to be desired, but hey, it’s a web series.  What do you expect, right?  I assume they’ll release a fourth and final episode sometime before the premiere.  We’ll try to keep an eye for it.

The Vampire Diaries premieres Thursday September 10th at 8pm on The CW.

The CW: Double Double Teasers: MP & TBL

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, 90210, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, The Beautiful Life, The CW on 09/04/2009 at 11:30 am

Melrose Place

As you see above there’s a new last minute poster for The CW’s upcoming Melrose Place remake.  The photo’s was used in a previous poster, but it’s been updated with that catchy little “See You Next Tuesday” tagline.  Down below we have two double promotional trailers for Melrose and The CW’s other new hot-boys-&-girls-athon, The Beautiful Life.  I’m kinda surprised these two shows weren’t paired together.  I think they’d go better together than the disapointingly terrible 90210 remake.  Who would have thought that show would make it to a second year?  Don’t worry, though, from what we hear the Melrose remake is much better than the 90210 one.

Melrose Place premieres Tuesday September 18th at 9pm & The Beautiful Life premieres Wednesday September 16th at 9pm  on The CW.

Chuck <3's Superman?

In 2010 Spring Schedule, Chuck, Lois & Clark, NBC, Smallville, The CW on 09/03/2009 at 12:34 pm

The producers of Chuck must have some Superman love in their hearts!  Kristen Kreuk, formerly known as Lana Lang on The CW’s Smallville, has just been cast in the part of a new character named Hannah.  She and Chuck are slated to meet on a Paris-bound flight and, having recently been laid-off from a publishing firm, takes up a position at The Buy More.  I’m sure the Nerd Herd will enjoy that.  Expect Hannah to be around for a few episodes.

The casting of one former Smallville actor does not a crush make, you say?  But wait!  A few days prior to the announcement of Ms. Kreuk’s casting, NBC announced the casting of an actual Superman: Brandon Routh, who starred in Superman Returns.  He’s set to star as a mysterious spy (is there any other kind?) named Shaw that takes charge of Operation Bartowski.

Now if they could only get Dean Cain or Teri Hatcher from Lois & Clark to guest star and Chuck will have all Superman related platforms covered!

Chuck returns for it’s third season sometime in March 2010 on NBC.

New One Tree Hill Clips

In 2009 Fall Season, One Tree Hill, Teen Soaps, The CW on 09/02/2009 at 7:51 pm

One Tree Hill

The first clip is a real treat: the opening of the season seven premiere.  Clip two gives us a look at Lipstick Jungle‘s Robert Buckley as Nate’s new manager and he’s checking out Shantel VanSanten as Quinn, Haley’s older sister!  From there on in, we get treated some Brooke and Haley girl talk, some practice time and some kind of joke that I think you have to know something about sports to understand.  All good stuff.

Supernatural – O’ Death

In 2009 Fall Season, O' Brother Where Art Thou?, Supernatural, The CW on 08/27/2009 at 2:25 pm

Didn’t we just do this?  Yes, we did!  The CW has posted another Supernatural trailer.  We try to avoid using the word “sick” except for in very special occasions and, well, this seems to constitute one.  So yeah, this is a pretty sick promo for a great show.  It features lot’s of intense footage and a cover of the song “O’ Death”.  While we would have preferred the O’ Brother Where Art Thou version, we’ll take what get.

Supernatural returns to The CW for it’s fifth (and rumored to be final?) season on Thursday September 10th at 9pm.

Vampire Diaries – Squeamish

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, One Tree Hill, Roswell, Supernatural, Teen Soaps, The CW, Vampire Diaries on 08/27/2009 at 10:04 am

Vampire Diaries

I am not gonna lie – of all the teen soaps set to premiere this fall I’m most looking forward to Vampire Diaries.  From the trailers and promotional material I’ve come across, it seems to have a very Roswell meets One Tree Hill with vampires quality to it.  I dig all three of those factors, so I’m guessing it’ll be looked forward to on a weekly basis.  Plus it’s teamed up with Supernatural, so it’s gonna be a very horrorific evening each and every Thursday.

Vampire Diaries premieres Thursday September 10th at 8pm on The CW, followed by the season fifth premiere of Supernatural.

The Beautiful Life Trailer

In 2009 Fall Season, 2009 Pilots, The Beautiful Life, The CW on 08/26/2009 at 11:18 am

The Beautiful Life

Well, we didn’t bother posting about those ridiculous promotional posters The CW released for The Beautiful Life last week,  We realize a cheap promotional ploy when we see one.  We do dig this trailer, though.  And hey!  It actually reminded us that Miss Barton is a part of the cast.  All recent promotion for the show has…mysteriously…left her out.

The Beautiful Life premieres Wednesday September 16th at 9pm on The CW.

Smallville Season 9 Trailer & Fan Art

In 2009 Fall Season, Smallville, The CW on 08/25/2009 at 3:38 pm

Smallville Season 9

We’ve had a couple of Smallville related posts popping up here at DVR Life, haven’t we?  First (and most importantly), there’s our Smallville Season 8 DVD contest, our sneak-peek at Brian Austin-Green as Metallo, and now we have a trailer for season 9!  We also thought we’d throw in some fan art we came across just for fun.

First up, though, the trailer.  It’s a pretty lo-fi TV rip, unfortunately.  For some reason, The CW has yet to post an official trailer on their youtube channel – at first glance it may seem odd because they’re using the channel to push all their others shows pretty hard, but when you think about, the network seems to have given up on the show for some reason.  Evidence?  Check the new Friday night timeslot.  It’s sad the network would treat such a long running show that way, but hey, what you do expect from a broadcast network, right?

(Update: Two days after that last paragraph was written and the day it was posted, The CW actually did upload this trailer.  So it’s here now, in better quality than before.  Way to finally get with it, CW.)

Anyway, the trailer is pretty rad.  You get a look at Clark’s new outfit and a sense of what’s to come.  Looks like Clark’s struggle between his alien and human sides is going to reach a boiling point.

New One Tree Hill Promos

In 2009 Fall Season, One Tree Hill, Preview, The CW on 08/24/2009 at 11:44 am

One Tree Hill

Two new promotional trailers for The CW’s soapy One Tree Hill.  We don’t wanna spoil anything but these promos hint towards some Nathan infidelity – yikes!  The second trailer closely resembles the first 2009 season promo we posted a while back, but the Nathan/Haley exchange is new.  Since that one was released first, it didn’t make much sense until we saw the other with the question of Nate sleeping with someone (please say it ain’t so!).

One Tree Hill returns for it’s seventh season Monday September 24th at it’s new time, 8pm.
